How Does Tapping (EFT) Work?
While tapping on meridian end points, we talk about an issue that’s causing stress. Talking while tapping sends a calming signal to the brain, releasing the tension and stress. Learn how Tapping works by watching this video on YouTube.
What Are Meridians?

Meridians are a network of energy channels that run throughout the body sending chi or life force to different parts of the body. The endpoints, or acupoints, which are also used in acupuncture, carry an electrical charge and when tapped send signals to the brain’s emotional center or amygdala.
The meridian system has been known in Chinese medicine for more than 3000 years. Western science is beginning to confirm and acknowledge this ancient wisdom.

What Is The Emotional Center of The Brain, or Amygdala?
This is the part of the brain that registers fear and is partially responsible for keeping us alive. If the amygdala senses danger, it sets in motion a complicated sequence of reactions including sending cortisol and adrenalin into our blood stream so that we can fight or flee in a dangerous situation.
This response is useful if we find ourselves in clear and present danger, but our brain doesn’t know the difference between danger and common everyday stressors. For example, someone cut you off on the highway or your best friend walked into a party with your ex-partner, or your news feed keeps reporting bad news.
The result? We are walking around in a constant state of low-level stress and our immune system doesn’t get the energy it needs. In a fight or flight situation, all the energy goes to our extremities. Makes sense, right?
Over time that situation can cause:
When we tap and talk about something that is stressing us out, we send a signal to the amygdala that says, “this is not a danger, you can stand down now.”

- weight gain
- increased blood sugar
- suppressed immune system
- digestive problems
- heart disease

What Does The Research Say About the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)?
“A study published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, the oldest peer-reviewed psychology journal in the United States, found that Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) lowered the major stress hormone cortisol significantly more than other interventions tested.” - The Tapping Solution
There have been over 100 studies on the effectiveness of EFT, tapping on the accupoints located on the face and upper body while talking about a stressor. Out of those studies, 99% document efficacy.
